music some more

The good thing about the acts that i liked most at Lowlands is that they were actually better in real life than on cd/mp3. That it is somehow not possible to capture the magic of their performance, how they personalise their music on stage, on a recording.. Maybe also because i have a bit of a taste for raw, emotional music hehe. That's also why i like Tom Waits so much, because his voice can give you cold shivers running down your spine. I can't imagine how he would sound live..

These reflections on live performances and albums remind me of a nice phrase a guy once said:

"Records and live performances are two worlds. One is a love letter, the other a hot date"

I don't think it's too difficult to guess who the author is (anyway, it's not Zappa), or what kind of music does he play...

Well if it's not Zappa, then there are not many options left, are there? :P (at least not in the crazy people from the seventies department..)
But the funny thing is, that this is not the case with every artist. For example, the performance of the Killers was great, but they played exactly like the songs on their album, a more or less perfect copy of it. Which does less for me than when an artist puts their gut into it, shows that he or she is a person.
Maybe it has just to do with performance experience, i don't know. Or maybe some people have this skill and other don't. It didn't really seem to bother anyone anyhow :)

I like the concerts because you can share your joy of enjoying the band.

And yaaj, Aline blogs again :)

Haha well, it's only minor blogging..

Sharing the joy (of jumping up and down) is part of it, but that doesn't make me fall in love with the band. Maybe if you are already in love it doesn't matter anymore hehe..

if not zappa dear gianca, it might be king crimson, or are there other favourites you have? ;-)

Anyway, I agree with both Chun and Giancarlo....Chuns insight had never really occurred to me before, but I think ur right. I mean, there mUst be a reason why we enjoy nasty 80s music...
